QUICK TIPS

Points and miles travel-hacking strategies typically focus on obtaining and using credit cards as a method of earning points and miles faster and more strategically.

If you have any issues with credit cards or debt accumulation, please do not get involved in the points and miles world. We cannot overemphasize this!

Here are some important TIPS and caveats before you get started:

  1. It is essential that you pay off EVERY credit card balance in full every month. If you pay interest on monthly balances, you are negating any value from points and mile redemptions.
  2. Start thinking of your travel goals (eg; which destinations, family trips, luxury getaways, solo travel). Where do you want to go and with whom (or solo?).
  3. Know your credit score. Applying for credit cards doesn’t automatically decrease your credit score, but your usage rate (monthly spend relative to available credit) will.
  4. Avoid applying for Retail Store cards at this time (eg; Macy’s, Costco). Don’t be lured by the “0% interest” advertisements.
