Hotel Reviews Albergo Pietrasanta
The Albergo Pietrasanta: Off the Beaten Track in Northern Tuscany
This is a wonderful Hotel in the northern Tuscan village of Pietrasanta. I found this hotel on my recent trip to Italy when I wanted to use Hyatt points for some unique hotel stays. I was traveling from Cinque Terra and looking for an overnight stop on the way to Sienna in Tuscany. I decided to stop for the night in this medieval town that is part of Versilia, the coastal area of northern Tuscany (South of Carrara and north of Pisa.)
I thought this would be an uneventful overnight stop in a quiet village. However, while walking from the train station to the hotel, I quickly realized it wasn’t a sleepy town, but is actually a bustling weekend destination for Italians. I passed multiple modern art galleries, high-end boutiques and outdoor art installations. I later learned that Pietrasanta is also known as “The little Athens of Italy” and was home to many renowned Italian artists and sculptors; thus the plethora of installations and studios around the town.
The Bottom Line
This is a very nice hotel and Pietrasanta warrants at least one day of exploration. I also recommend this hotel as a base to visit nearby towns.

Hotel Review
The Albergo Pietrasanta is a boutique SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) Property located near the main historic square. There was contemporary art throughout the Albergo interspersed with the antique style furnishings. It was originally an Italian Palazzo and they pay homage to the original charm of an authentic palazzo. Each room has slightly different décor, providing the of rooms within a private home. The rooms are all named and identified with a different small framed picture on the outside of the door. We stayed in the “Crab Room.”
Although I originally thought, “I don’t typically want to associate “Crabs” with a hotel room”, it turned out to be a lovely, spacious corner room with a view of the outside garden.
Bedroom with parquet floor and air conditioning
Delicious breakfast served that included a buffet and made-to-order eggs if requested (complimentary with Globalist status).
The hotel is in the historic pedestrian part of town and is easy to access via train and a short walk. If you are driving, should contact the hotel to coordinating parking. The staff at the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. They exhibited a lot of patience and assistance when we had an unfortunate incident of leaving a passport in the hotel safe (Yikes!)
Pros
- Located close the train station and able to easily explore the town
- Many dinner options within walking distance
- Helpful staff and owner-that will arrange day trips for you to the beach, Pisa or Lucca
- A very reasonable Hyatt category 5 hotel at approx. 17,000 points
- Large room with good toiletry products, robes and slippers provided
Cons
- The bathroom in the “Crab Room” was very narrow, so be careful not to bump into the window handles (yes, I ended up with a big bump on my forehead.) I recommend putting a sock over the handles!
