The Hyatt Ziva: All Inclusive Luxury in Cancun

Cancun and the surrounding cities in the Yucatan peninsula in the East of Mexico are popular tourist destinations. The area is attractive due to beach location with beautiful ocean views, nightlife, dining and variety of options and available activities. Over the years, there has been a lot of development in the area generating a multitude of resorts for families, couples, and singles.

I hadn’t always been a fan of All-Inclusive resorts in the past, for a variety of reasons. However, on my past few vacations to Mexico, I have chosen all-inclusive resorts and I have been pleasantly surprised.

The Bottom Line

Great resort with a wide variety of restaurants and activities.  The upgrade to the Turquoise Tower (adults only) is worth it for a bit of pampering!

Hotel Brand Affiliation

Hyatt, 50,000 points per night for 2 people (children are extra).

There is some elite status recognition with potential upgrades to the Club Tower.  At a minimum, elite members access to the Club Lounge (I thought was mediocre).

They also had a fun Globalist banner across our room’s front door on arrival.

Hotel Review

Hyatt Ziva is located on the end of a peninsula that is surrounded by water on three sides. The resort is a short ride from the Cancun airport (transportation options can be found on Viator, here is the one I used: Cancun Transportation). We were welcomed with cold towel and drink upon arrival, which is always a nice touch.

There are a different towers options for rooms, including the Club Tower, which provides access to the Club Lounge, and the Turquoise Tower.  The latter tower is adults-only and the rooms are slightly larger and more modern. There are also rooms available that have their own pools!

Based on availability, I was able to upgrade our room to the Turquoise Tower and take advantage of it’s exclusive access to a rooftop adults pool and butler service.  This upgrade, if available, will be offered at check-in by the front desk.  (When I was there, it was $100 per night for Hyatt Globalists).

Our room had a beautiful ocean view and a bathtub on the balcony!  The butler even filled the bathtub for us – talk about luxury!  Your butler (part of the Turquoise Tower upgrade) is available almost 24/7 and they are in contact with you via What’s App.  If you are not in the Turquoise Tower, there is a hotel Concierge that will send you schedule updates via text.  In addition, our room had a stocked mini bar and a complimentary bottle of tequila.  The Turquoise Tower is located close to the fitness facility (this is great if you want to work off all your food and drinks). An iPad is provided in all the rooms that have information about the dining options, spa services and scheduled activities.

If you enjoy activities, make sure you ask for the daily event schedule (or check your in-room iPad). There resort offers a variety of activities for adults and children.  In addition, there are pools and beaches for relaxing!  During the 3 days I was there, I took a pickleball lesson, Pilates class and played Bingo in the pool!

As with many of the resorts in and around Cancun, there are often weddings during the weekend evenings.

Dining

The Hyatt Ziva has 18 restaurants, lounges and bars that are included in your nightly rate.  During busy times of the year, some of the dinner restaurants fill up quickly.  Even though reservations are not required, I recommend you email the concierge prior to arrival if you want to dine at: Teppanyaki Performance or French brasserie, La Bastille (the latter is adults only). We enjoyed both those restaurants as well as the Tradewinds Steakhouse. If you like sweets, you will love the desert parlor, Pasteles, where you can choose indulge in unlimited cotton candy, ice cream, pastries, cookies and more!

Food is also served poolside, you can order room service or visit the well-stocked buffet.  There is extensive variety and the staff is accommodating to food allergies.  Overall, the food quality was very good and the convenience of having a wide selection on-site definitely made my vacation more relaxing.
